The Centre of Black Thought and African Studies hosted a public seminar titled Womanism, Black Feminism and Decoloniality. The seminar, held virtually on the 18th August 2022, was presented by the Black womanist scholar, Ms. Sandiswa L. Kobe from the Department of Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology of the University of South Africa. The purpose of the seminar was to reflect on the conceptual categories of womanism in relation to black feminism in light of the decolonial turn.
Through using African works of art on ubuntu and research on ubuntu, Ms Kobe sought to analyse Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's activism in the struggle for liberation to argue that Madikizela-Mandela embodied the spirit of ubuntu. Ms Kobe explored Madikizela-Mandela's character and conduct using the paradigms of Black Theology of Liberation, Black feminist theology and womanism.
